Demonstrating C.A.R.E. & Enrichment
At Banham Primary we are proud of all of our children and encourage them to reach their full potential. We want our children to have access to experiences that enrich their lives and inspire them to try new things. Our C.A.R.E. values underpin all we do as we encourage our pupils to be Confident, Able to meet future challenges, Responsible members of the community and Effective learners.
At Banham Primary School, our enrichment activities are underpinned by our C.A.R.E. values. We strive to ensure these activities support our curriculum and expand experiences for all of our children. This page captures some of the activities children at Banham experience but is not an exhaustive list.
We have taken part in a range of sporting events such as our annual Trust Cross Country competition, netball, and tag rugby events as well as cricket and Norwich City Football Club community activities. We then extend this into experience days including various types or dance and bounce fit and local football games. We are proud that these experiences have encouraged children to join clubs outside of school such as netball, cricket, rugby and football but also take part in larger sporting events.
Regular sports and physical activities help improve our cardiovascular health, strengthen muscles and bones, reduce stress and anxiety, boost immune function, enhance mental health and cognitive functioning, builds confidence and self-esteem, promotes teamwork and leadership skills, lets children enjoy themselves and more!
All children take part in regular Forest School sessions in our own Forest School area.
These sessions involve:
• exploring the natural environment by exploring materials and the area around them.
• provides opportunities for children to take risks and challenge themselves in a safe setting through tree climbing, using tools or sometimes a campfire.
• helps to fosters independence and self-confidence in our children allowing them to design and create wonderful child led creations.
• promotes physical activity and a love of nature through movement games, insect hunting and caring for our special area.
• And, helps children to develop social skills and to cooperate with each other through den building and sharing ideas.
Our Year 5 and 6 children have the opportunity to take part in our biannual residential trip. Our latest one was to Eaton Vale. The children enjoyed various activities such as crate stacking, raft building, go kart building, archery and more.
The alternative year they take part in specific enrichment days.
Class trips are picked to support the learning in class and strengthen knowledge around a topic or to develop a particular skill set.
The whole school have enjoyed a trip to the pantomime at Christmas to experience a real theatre.
We also ensure we reap the benefits of a zoo in the village which we can walk to, link to our learning and enjoy!
The choir have also performed at the ‘Zoo Do’ to a sold out evening of 2000 tickets! And, confidently sang to a packed theatre in the Corn Hall as part of an evenings musical entertainment.
